Obituaries
My sweet angel Doreen has joined her heavenly flock of angels on January 1, 2023, at the age of 61. Doreen was the love of my life, my best friend and my companion who had a heart of gold. Doreen was the loving mother of Janelle, sister of Greg and Andrew Maslar; sister-in-law of Gary (Valerie), Richard (Elizabeth) Baldasarre, Rosemarie (Chuck) Cumella, and extended family. Doreen’s greatest joys were being a wife and mother.
Doreen’s passion was being a nurse at Rochester General Hospital. Doreen took great pleasure in helping and caring for people. Doreen was an avid cook and social butterfly.
We would like to thank all those who loved her, cared for her, and supported Doreen during her life and in her time of need. The medical staff at RGH and Clifton Springs Hospital were awesome in their care of Doreen. We are so grateful for Doreen’s fantastic coworkers, bestest neighbors and great friends.
Calling hours will be Monday, January 9th 2-7PM at Dierna Funeral Home. Her Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday 11AM at Holy Trinity Church (1460 Ridge Rd. Webster). Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to support pancreatic cancer research and treatment through Lustgarten Foundation.
“Goodbye my love, Rest in Peace.” – Husband Jim

Take comfort in knowing that heaven is her new home: John 14:1-4 [NKJV] “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

  13. Doreen was one of the reasons I loved working on 6800 at RGH. She mentored me, challenged me, teased me, listened & modelled for me how to be both a caring and compassionate nurse and a human being. I’ll always remember the Lifesaver candies she kept in her office. They were a symbol of what she did, and we did, as healthcare professionals in so many ways. God bless you, Doreen, on the next stage of your journey!
    Peace & love. Tom Agness

  14. Jim,
I know it has been years since we saw each other, but your comments are incredible and so heartfelt. I never met Doreen but I can tell how much you loved her. I am truly sorry for your loss and know you will carry her forward with your spirit. All the best and so very sorry. JJ

  15. Jim and Janelle, I am so sorry for your loss. I am saddened, but I am also thankful we had a visit together in July when you visited Delaware. Doreen and I had known each other our entire lives- sharing the same birthday, same childhood church (Holy Spirit), same schools and home rooms. I’m so glad Doreen found true happiness in her profession. I could tell from our summer visit that she was very proud of Janelle, and Jim was the love of her life. May she rest in peace. I will always remember her fondly.

  16. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I had the privilege to work with Doreen. She was one of the kindest and most caring people I know. She loved her family more than anything. She was a dedicated, compassionate and caring nurse who used her leadership skills to ensure her patients were well cared for and her team was supported and given the opportunity to grow. I love the picture you chose- it says everything about Doreen

  17. Jim and Janelle, I am sorry for your loss. Doreen was a beautiful woman, and fun cousin. I am glad Nikki and I were able to come up to Ontario a few summers ago. It was a fantastic day and that is what I will cherish and remember about her. I also will also cherish several family holiday dinners at the Maslar house. Aunt Helen had my mom, brother and I over in the years after my grandparents died. Those were fun times. Doreen and Aunt Helen were great cooks. Nothing but good memories about Doreen.

  18. Jim and Janelle-Words can’t adequately express our sorrow for Doreen’s passing. She always had a smile and hello when passing her on her walks. What Earth has lost,Heaven has gained. She’s no longer in pain and is more alive now than she ever was. She’ll be missed until we all see her again.Kevin and Debbie Roberts

  19. Beautiful Doreen, you made such a tremendous impact on the lives of so many. We thank you for the friendship you gave to our family. Your smile, your love, caring support will never be forgotten. I remember going to mass at holy trinity and I would look for you seated across the way sitting in the opposite wing. You were so devoted to your faith, just as you were to you family and friends. RIP beautiful lady, you will be cherished and never forgotten ❤

  20. Doreen was a truly dedicated nurse to her patients & their families. I had the privilege
to witness her leadership as a colleague
and as a patient myself on 6800. Beautiful picture- she had a lovely smile.

  21. God Bless the Baldasarre Family may His comfort and love be with you!
    My condolence…
Peace be with you, Jasmine Lissette Valle

  22. I had the privilege of knowing Doreen at RGH. While I never worked with her personally – she and I were on several committees at the hospital. We often shared the same viewpoints of the on-going discussions and with a knowing look shared between us and a smile – I knew our thoughts were the same! She was a beautiful person and a wonderful nurse.
