Obituaries

Mark V. O’Brien, of Fairport, NY, passed away on May 1, 2023. He was 68 years young and a
beloved Dad and Papa.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Arthur B. O’Brien and Shirley J. O’Brien. He is survived
by his cherished daughter, Justine M. O’Brien; his adored grandson, Aidyn V. Ocasio; siblings
Kevin J. O’Brien (Jennifer Sclar) and Claire F. O’Brien (Timothy Brosnan); nieces and nephews
Rebecca, Sarah, Benjamin, and Abigail O’Brien and Kevin, Helen, and Charlotte Brosnan; an
extended network of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and numerous members of the Hill family.
Mark was born in Rochester, NY, graduated from St. John Fisher University, and worked at
Eastman Kodak Company, AIG, and JPMorgan Chase Bank. His biggest dream in life was to
become a Dad; Justine’s arrival, followed decades later by Aidyn’s birth, and spending time with
them throughout their lives meant everything to Mark. He was fun loving, passionate about ‘all
things sports’, personable, quick to smile, proud of his Irish heritage, and could always be
counted on to share the latest piece of trivia and ask about your family members. Special family
memories centered around life at Keuka Lake. Mark was well loved, had a seemingly
inexhaustible will to live, and will be dearly missed.
Mark’s entire family is especially grateful to Justine, Aidyn, Laurie O’Brien Cargill, and Jean Hill
Oswald for their generous gifts of time and support as Mark valiantly struggled with health
issues.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 553 Humboldt St., Rochester,
NY on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre
Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Dierna Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation to Keuka Comfort Care Home (Penn Yan,
NY) in Mark’s memory: keukacomfortcarehome.org. This comfort care home opened in 2007
and was inspired, in part, by Mark’s mother’s hospice experience.

  1. Mark was one-of-a-kind: a gentle soul, but quick and witty for sure. I will miss his sense of humor and wonder. He was thoughtful too.. It was a joy to walk beside him in recent years; he remained so sharp!!! To Justine and Aidyn: you were the Love of his life; he is not “gone” but it’s true we can’t see him. I’m so sorry you couldn’t have more time with him. He worked very hard to stay for you ♥ I think of all your activities, now and in the future, where he’ll be close by, watching you and sending you love. Look for him in big and small ways (lol, more than just the Bills games) cuz he’s around. I know you’ll continue to make him proud. I love you..

    1. Thank you Aunt Jean that means a lot. We appreciate all you did for him❤️ We miss him so much but we will continue
to make him proud like you said love you ❤️

  2. So sorry to learn of Mark’s passing…I knew Mark and Laurie years ago. Recently while going through old photos came across photos of their wedding. I remember him as a kind and gentle man who had a zest for life. It does not surprise me that he fought so hard to stay as long as he could especially for those he loved so dearly. May you find comfort and peace with the knowledge that he will always be with you in spirit. He is at peace enfolded in the arms of Perfect Love. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

    1. Thank you so much Bonnie for the kind words …. My mom said she remembers you very well. You really said it perfectly, “ he is at peace enfolded in the arms of Perfect Love”❤️

  3. Mark will always be remembered and with such fondness and love. He always had a smile and a good chuckle to share in most every conversation. He was very interested in others and inquisitive. This may be one way he gained such knowledge in life. For the decades I knew Mark, I was always amazed how he most often knew something about almost every topic that would come up. Just incredible. … It was his deep love for his daughter and grandson, Justine and Aidyn, that so inspired him to want to keep going. Justine and Aidyn, he will be watching over you with that wonderful smile and chuckle (because you make him so happy), and with so much love. We will all surely miss seeing him for now, but will look forward to seeing him once again. In the meantime, just imagine Jesus welcoming your Dad and Papa in to Heaven with His great big smile and welcoming arms! I love you both and we’re always here for you. xoxo
