Obituary of Alan Luciano

In loving memory of Alan Luciano, of Rochester who passed away on March 17, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Beverly, (2021) whom he cherished very deeply, and his parents Dominic and Santina, whose love and guidance shaped his life.
 Alan leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his loving daughter Christina and his faithful companion Doc, his English bulldog. Alan was a man of profound passions. He adored the New York Yankees and the Giants, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. His love for Corvettes was matched only by his enthusiasm for working out with his buddies, sharing laughs and making memories. His warm smile and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. Alan’s memory will forever be cherished by his daughter, dear friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known him throughout the years.
 A celebration of Alan’s life will be announced for this summer, a tribute to a man who brought so much joy to those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Obituary of Daisy Giles

Daisy A. Giles

Passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024 at age 91. She was predeceased by her son Michael Cathey and daughter Fajetta Jones, siblings Doris Hucks, Troy Giles, and Ledell Giles.

She is survived by her daughters Nadirah (Carl) Fenner and WillieMae Love, also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and her dear friend and aide, Bobbi Elam.

Daisy was proud of  her long career at the City of Rochester, working for 25 years. She enjoyed fishing, shopping and never missed her soap operas.  Her greatest pride came from being with family. She took great joy in mothering every child she could. Her warmth and nurturing personality played a vital role in the raising of young children and babies within the family.

Her Graveside service will be held on Thursday March 21st, at 12:30pm at Oakwood Cemetery 1975 Baird Rd. Penfield, NY 14526.

Paul Baskera

Passed away March 8, 2024 at 92. He is finally going to rejoin his wife Ellie. Survived by his niece Carol Ann Baskera and her husband Tom Bator, extended family in Germany and also his adopted family Philip and Kathy Cubiotti-his caretakers. Paul was a retired engineer of Xerox and a veteran of the US Army. Always eager to advise and help his friends.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday 3/20 11am at Riverside Cemetery Chapel of Peace.

Passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 1, 2024 at age 96.

Predeceased by his wife Maureen and siblings Genevieve (Sam) Guadaginino, Angelina (Joseph) Parnello, and Katherine Patti.

Loving Father of Anthony (Sue) and Christine (Cheryl). Also survived by 6 stepchildren; sisters Margaret Giunta, Mary Ann (Raymond) Ringwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday 3/17 from 12-2pm at Dierna Funeral Home 2309 Culver Rd. Private interment White Haven Memorial Park.

Obituary of Calvin Kotwas

Calvin J. Kotwas, March 6, 2024 at 68, due to a stroke. Calvin was born on July 18, 1955, to Bernard and Olive Kotwas. He grew up in Webster, NY, and attended Webster Thomas High School. In 1976, Calvin married Kathy Stenglein, and together they had a daughter, Kara. Calvin worked as a precision tool and die machinist and enjoyed hunting, riding and fixing motorcycles, and listening to rock-n-roll music.

Calvin was preceded by both his parents, his siblings Aletta “Letty” Kotwas, Bernard “Bernie” Kotwas (Pat), and his nephew David Kotwas. He was also preceded in death by his closest friend, Gary Spencer (Ruth).

He is survived by his daughter, Kara Wochner, son-in-law Mark Wochner, and grandson Felix Wochner. He is also survived by his former spouse and friend, Kathy Staunton (Bob), his nephew Clinton Kotwas, and close friend Cathy Tierson.

Visitation hours and a service will be held on Sunday, March 17, from 3:30 – 5:30 PM at Dierna Funeral Home. In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Brain Injury Association of New York State at bianys.org/donate.

brothers Mitchell & Donald Shurgot.
Survived by the love of her life Ken Wingate. Their journey together spanned 67 beautiful years,
filled with shared laughter, cherished moments and a bond that will endure beyond time. She
leaves behind Daughters Kim (Tom) Jost, Karleen (Kevin) Quinlan. 6 Grandchildren – Madison
(Justin) Wingate/Busch, Zachary Wingate, Kendra Jost, Ian Jost, Alison Quinlan, Colin Quinlan.
She was a creative, beautiful, kind soul with a beaming smile. Family was most important to
Joan, cherishing every moment they spent together. Also she cherished her extended family
and friends. Joan was happiest spending time outdoors in her beautiful flower gardens, getting
her exercise by playing tennis and enjoying cards with friends.
Joan always enjoyed a good party, please join us to say goodbye. Saturday, June 1, 2024 from
2-6pm at Saint Paul Exempts 690 Thomas Ave, Rochester NY 14617.

February 25, 2024 at 90. Predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas, her twin sister Christine Merritt, brother Roland Maier, and great-granddaughter Ella Tucker. Survived by her children James (Sharon), Nancy (Keith) Lords, Thomas (Jan), grandchildren Jon (Becca) Lords, Matthew (Becky) Lords, Kelle Lyn (Thomas) Paige, Bryan (Jessica) Lords, Lindsay (Jason) True, Amanda (Chris) Ellis, Nicole Tucker, Samantha (Kurt) Morse, Gabrielle Scott, Heidi Lords, nephew Paul (Kathleen) Maier, nieces Suzanne (David) Lamphier, Kimberly (Dennis) Morris, and other nieces and nephews and her 18 great grandchildren that she loved with all her heart.

Her family was everything to her, being with the ones she loved was her greatest joy.

Private services will be held by the family.

Obituary of Michael DiCesare

Michael John DiCesare
60, died on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after being in a coma since Christmas. He is survived by his two children, Amanda and Elisabeth “Duncan”; their mother, Karrie, all of Rochester; his sister, Julie (Glen) Arellano, of Riverside, CA; his brother, David (Donna), of Albany, NY; and a niece and nephews, along with many extended family members and friends. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, John and Judith DiCesare.
Michael, also known as “Mickey” with a goofy sense of humor, is a graduate of Eastridge High School and studied communication and media studies at Monroe Community College. He was passionate about cooking and worked as a chef for many area restaurants including Jack n’ Jill Inn and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. He created a barbecue sauce, called Tailgater’s, and owned and operated Calico Jack’s Seaside Cantina in the ’90s in Rochester.
Michael enjoyed playing cards, listening to classic rock on vinyl, and was an animal lover, taking in kittens who followed him home from work.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 11AM at Christ the King Church, 445 Kings Highway South, Rochester, NY 14617, followed by a reception at 2PM at Sea Breeze Volunteer Fire Department 4657 Culver Road, Rochester, NY 14622, where all are welcome to remember and tell stories of Michael.

Survived by his wife Marianne, children Paul II (Heather), Marianne (Robert), Christopher (Kelly), Carl, Heather (Corey), Timothy (Sarah), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, beloved in-laws Mark (Leaf) Christensen, Jan (Dave) Williams, and Carol Cole, nephews Duane, Darren, Gary, Joe, Larry and many more nieces, nephews, good friends and his best friends Jose (Norma) Gonzalez and Alfonse “Al”.
