Obituary of Dr. Ross H. Tallents

Dr. Ross H. Tallents, DDS – A Legacy of Excellence in Dentistry and Compassionate Service.

It is with great sorrow that the family of Dr. Ross H. Tallents announces that he has gone to be with The Lord. The most important gift in his life was his family! Ross and his wife Kathleen were married for 53 years. A true testament of their marriage was that they worked well together in Ross’ dental practice for years! Ross is survived by his son Ross who brought immense pride to his Dad. They shared the same love of family, a strong work ethic, and compassion for others! Young Ross’ wife Jill has been very supportive and helpful navigating our journey with Alzheimer’s. Ross treasured the gifts of his grandchildren Wyatt, Emerson, and Sawyer who brought him GREAT JOY. He marveled at their every accomplishment, their strong character, strong faith, love of family, and generosity of time spent in helping others!

Ross’ daughter Laura has always been devoted to her parents. It was very difficult when both of her parents were diagnosed with serious medical problems 5 years ago. She immediately did everything possible to selflessly care for them during this difficult time. Her kindness, compassion, and love brought them great joy and pride.

Ross had extended family in Connecticut Tim and Sue Ellen Sullivan (brother and sister in-law) Garrett and Becky Sullivan (nephew and wife) their children Ava and Aaron. Patrick and Danielle Sullivan (nephew and wife) and their children Noah and Grant.

Ross was born in Oswego, NY to Helen and George Tallents. Ross’ mom worked two jobs to help him pay for his education. He graduated from Albany School of Pharmacy and then worked as a pharmacist in order to graduate from Georgetown School of Dentistry. Education and research were major focuses! Initially he completed a dental internship at Eastman Dental Center (EDC) and then started a General Dentistry practice. A few years later, he completed The Prosthodontics Program at EDC, began his private Prosthodontic and TMJ Disorder practice. Then initiated his illustrious teaching career at EDC that spanned decades. Ross was always intensely interested in education; his credentials as a teacher, clinician, clinical scholar are considerable. He was a Professor in the Departments of Prosthodontics, Orthodontics and the Founding Program Director of the TMJ Disorders Program; eventually becoming the Director.

Over 150 journal articles and book chapters have been published. He also lectured nationally and internationally about TMJ Disorders. He mentored countless students – sharing his knowledge, passion, and commitment to excellence. His influence on dental education was profound, as many of his mentees have made significant contributions to the dental field.

Ross earned a certificate from the Council of National Board of Dental Examiners and the EDC Directors Award.

There were two major partnerships in Ross’ career:
Over a forty-year period, Dr. Donald Macher, an oral surgeon, performed TMJ surgical intervention when required. They were an ideal team and provided comprehensive patient centered care. He was a treasured friend and colleague.
Over a thirty-year period, Dr. Tallents collaborated with Dr. Stephanos Kyrkanides and Dr. Sabine Brouxhon on Alzheimer’s Disease Research, Chronic Pain Research, patents and scientific publications.

A celebration of Dr. Ross H. Tallents’ life and achievements will be held in the spring. If you wish to make a donation in Dr. Tallents’ name, please do so to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Dr. Tallents’ life was a testament to the power of intellect, compassion, and determination. His pioneering research, loving spirit, and dedication to his family have left an extraordinary legacy. Obituary of Carlton Becks

Carl passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 15, 2024, 3 days before his 88th birthday, after a long and courageous battle with cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

Carl is predeceased by his 4-year-old son Michael Thomas Becks; his parents Karl and Cora Becks; his brother A. Frederick Becks; his sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Karl Sperber; and his brothers in law John Frank and Thomas Falzone.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce (Falzone) Becks; his children Debra (Richard) Cooper, Eric Becks, Sandra (Floyd) Cole of VA, and Carla (Peter) Maio; his 4 grandchildren Richard (Leslie) Cooper III, Joseph (Megan) Cooper, Patrick & Mia Cole both of VA; 3 great grandchildren Liam Cole of VA, Richard Thomas Cooper IV and Grant Cooper; his sisters Coralie (William) Hinchcliffe, Mary Frank of TN; sister-in-law Joyce Becks; and several nieces and nephews.

Carl had many hobbies in life. Taking the children and grandchildren fishing, summer and winter was a big part of it. He enjoyed traveling and wherever he went there was always a fishing pole close at hand. He has fished the entire eastern seaboard from New Jersey to Key West, as well as the lakes and bays of New York and parts of Canada. When he wasn’t fishing he could be seen riding his bicycle to and from work or on a leisure ride with the family. He also enjoyed leisure rides, racing and overnight camping trips with the Rochester Bicycling Club of which he was a founding member. In the winter he loved taking the whole family cross country skiing in Durand Eastman Park. Having grown up nearby he knew his way around every back road, trail and path throughout the park so we were never lost. In the spring he’d have all the kids out picking dandelions for his famous (among family & friends) dandelion wine. Summertime always meant taking the family tent camping to the beaches of New Jersey, Virginia and N. Carolina. In his retirement years he enjoyed “camping” with Joyce in their luxury camper in the fall at the outer banks of N. Carolina and winters in the Florida Keys.

Carl’s family would like to give a big “Thank you” to the staff at Brook at High Falls Nursing Home for all their TLC during his final years.

Calling hours will be Friday December 20th, from 10AM-12PM, followed by his funeral service at Dierna Funeral Home 2309 Culver Rd. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations can be made to St. Jude children’s Hospital in Memphis TN in Carl’s honor.
