Lonzie Lee Colbert

Lonzie Lee Colbert was born on September 7, 1933, in Swainsboro, Georgia, to the late Eulas Colbert and Georgia Viletter Robinson. He was the fourth oldest of ten children and spent his early years in both Swainsboro and Lyons, Georgia.

After a brief illness, Lonzie peacefully answered the Master’s call and entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York.

As a young man, Lonzie relocated to Rochester, New York, following his cousins, Bob and Eugene Bennett, in search of better employment opportunities and a brighter future.

Lonzie dedicated more than 40 years of hard work to the asphalt and construction industry before retiring from Resurface Asphalt. Retirement allowed him to devote his time to two of his greatest passions—gardening and fishing—activities he enjoyed almost every day.

Known affectionately as “Lee” or “Uncle Lee,” he never met a stranger. He was a bonus father to many and, above all, a true friend. Whether through his colorful vocabulary that brought laughter to those who knew him best or his generous spirit that led him to give the shirt off his back, Lonzie touched countless lives. He was kind, loving, caring, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

One of Lonzie’s greatest joys was football. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, he proudly celebrated every victory with his signature phrase, “How ’bout them Cowboys!” Those words will forever bring smiles to the hearts of those who loved him.

Lonzie was preceded in death by his parents, Eulas Colbert and Georgia Viletter Robinson; his son, Alonzo Colbert; and his siblings, Cleo Wright, James Colbert, Joe Colbert, Valen Colbert, William Colbert, and Charles Colbert.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving daughter, Monzella “Angie” Butler of Rochester, New York; three sisters, Nellie (James) Lonon, Mary Lois (Dunbar) Ward, and Lou Ellen (O’Neal) Young, all of Statesboro, Georgia; two beloved grandchildren, Lamesha Lockett of Greenville, North Carolina, and Ja’Vonte Lockett of Rochester, New York, who were truly the center of his life; two great-grandchildren, H’Sani (Aja) Lockett and J’Lynn Z’YmanLee Lockett; one great-great-granddaughter, Journi Lockett; his special friend, Timmy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Lonzie’s legacy of love, kindness, generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
