
Shirley M. Culver, 100, of Rochester, passed peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026. She was born in Rochester, NY on August 30, 1925. Following her graduation from John Marshall High School in 1943, Shirley was employed by Eastman Kodak until after she married and began raising her 6 children. After many years, Shirley returned to the workforce and was employed in various secretarial/receptionist positions until she was hired in the SofLens customer service department at Bausch and Lomb where she worked until her retirement in 1993.
Shirley enjoyed music and singing. She played the violin and sang in the church choir. Shirley loved caring for her houseplants and spent many hours outside the family home gardening. Shirley loved the outdoors, camping, and especially being near the water. She was very supportive of her sons’ Boy Scout troop and became a co-leader of her daughters’ Girl Scout troop. Shirley was an avid reader and enjoyed completing crossword puzzles. Most of all, Shirley enjoyed family gatherings and outings with her children and grandchildren. She was lovingly called the “Head Honcho” by her family.
Shirley is survived by her children, David (Becky) Beiswenger, Scott (Joyce) Beiswenger, Wendy (Joe Walczyk) Beiswenger, Laura Sullivan, Mary Ellen (Stephen) Cicero, and Douglas (Sherry Warner) Beiswenger, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Bruce Beiswenger, granddaughter, Kristine Seeger, and great grandson, Jack Axx.
